A WARM NOTE FROM THE EDITOR

Puppy Flowers was once but a gleam in the eye of a BART station sunset. A small fire,
as Karl is wont to say, that required a bit of stoking. While we had little idea of how to
put together a journal, we did know some good poets. And, luckily, these good poets
knew other good poets. In retrospect, we think they’re all fantastic.

So, with further ado—Welcome to Puppy Flowers! Also known, at various junctures, as:

A.M.
A Plus
Big Fan
Bow
Bulb
Caper
Drive in
Dock (with a picture of a duck)
Duck (with a picture of a dock)
Else
Garnish
March
Peer
Phil
Phone
So on
Some Set
Vine
Wind sock
Zane

In the end what we wanted was something tough and smart. And we realized Puppy
Flowers is about the toughest, smartest name going. Besides, all the others were
gobbled up in the great URL hunt of 1997.

Though we here at Puppy Flowers keep our humble hands gently taut on the proverbial
reigns, it is our feeling that PF, like existential angst, belongs to everyone. That is why
we are now accepting, nay encouraging, nay demanding submissions. We have provided
a basic skeletal outline—art, essay, short fiction, and a backbone of poetry—the guts
are up to you. Enjoy, share, write and remember: this is a serious journal.

my hope is

this will change
